 {Counsel was to kill} (oul(8820)egeneto hina--apoktein(9373)in).
The soldiers did not relish the idea of the escape of the
prisoners. Hence there came this "counsel" (oul(885c)). Regular
Greek idiom for purpose (hina and aorist active subjunctive of
apoktein(935c), to kill). Soldiers were responsible for the lives of
prisoners ( Ac 12:19 ). {Swim out} (ekkolumb(8873)as). First aorist
active participle of ekkolumba(935c), old verb to swim out and so
away. {Escape} (diaphug(8869)). Second aorist (effective) active
subjunctive of diapheug(935c), to make a clean (dia) escape.
